Challenge
The Berendsen sales team used to save competitor's data in shared excel spreadsheets, which was a complex and laborious set up, often leading to incomplete and outdated details.
A transparent intranet system with intuitive user interface was needed, enabling the salesforce to share, access, and analyse the information effectively, providing an up to date summary of competition per industry sector.
The new fully customised solution needed to be low-cost, easily implementable, and based on standard data sharing functionalities. The project would require a pilot before being rolled out.
Solution
Berendsen plc selected Liferay Portal as their standard portal platform based on its scalability and the broad range of uniform standard functionalities, as well as custom made portlets which could be used again, contributing to better cost control.
Componence implemented a short term pilot scheme which was closely monitored, allowing for quick responses to change and continuous development. This agile development process was run according to the standard methodology of Liferay Portal, alleviating unforeseen risks and uncertainties for the customer.
The competitor's data system was built on the existing Liferay Portal database model. Its front end is extremely user friendly, and the availability of standard intranet applications, such as Forum and Documentenbibliotheek, secure communication and documentation underlying the actual data.
This intuitive intranet application developed by Componence gives the Berendsen sales professionals quick and easy access to a vast database of competitor's information. A simple role based authorisation procedure turns new entrances into actual values, ensuring the available information is constantly up to date.
